Dear Tony,
On behalf of the Trades Union Congress in the Midlands I am writing to send our fraternal greetings, full support and total solidarity to Unison members embarking on strike action to defend national pay, terms and conditions against their employer, Sandwell Leisure Trust.
Unison members said, loud and clear, by the huge majority who voted to take this action, that they are determined to stand up against this approach and I hope that the employer has listened. The fact that the Trust is owned by a Labour Council makes this even more important to take a stand, because if Labour Council’s take this approach, others would undoubtedly follow. I genuinely hope that Labour Councillors uphold their values and take the Trust to task over its approach – anything you want the TUC to do in terms of contacting Sandwell local authority leaders, please do let me know.
In addition to the above I will also circulate to all affiliates to give you the maximum support we can get for your action.
