NJC Pay 2021 Update

We have received a number of enquiries asking for an update on the NJC local government pay dispute for 2021, and when the dispute is likely to be settled. As you will know from letters sent to your home address, our recent industrial action ballot in England and Wales produced a 70% ‘yes’ vote for strike action, but the turnout was only 14.5%, meaning we are unable to take action.

The pay offer for 2021 is 1.75% for all but for the bottom pay point, which is 2.75%. Once settled, the pay offer will be backdated from 1 April 2021.

However, our industrial action ballot in Northern Ireland remains open until 10 February. On Tuesday 1 February UNISON’s NJC Committee met and reaffirmed its earlier decision to wait for the result of the ballot in Northern Ireland before taking a decision on whether to settle the dispute.

With regard to the other NJC unions, GMB are not balloting for industrial action, but Unite are balloting, with ballots closing on various dates in February. We remain in touch with our sister unions about next steps.
