Strike at Sandwell Leisure Trust Friday 30th April

Notice has been submitted to Sandwell Leisure Trust for industrial action by UNISON members.

UNISON members working at Sandwell Leisure Trust are taking industrial action on Friday 30th April against their employer for moving away from NJC Pay, terms and conditions.

Despite the difficulties during the lockdowns, UNISON members have now voted twice to take legal industrial action. The second vote saw 78% of UNISON members voting for industrial action on a 64% turnout.

With the Leisure Centres still being owned by the Labour Council in Sandwell, the strike on Friday 30th April will demonstrate to the Board of Sandwell Leisure Trust (SLT) that UNISON will not tolerate staff being ‘fired and re-hired’ on worse terms and conditions now, nor in the future, when the promise from SLT not to make more changes runs out in March 2022.

At a time when a new £73million Aquatic Centre is being built in Sandwell for the 2022 Commonwealth Games, there can be no justification for attacking the pay or conditions of staff.

Please send messages of support and solidarity to t.barnsley.sandwellunison@outlook.com. Any donations to our hardship fund can be sent to UNISON Office, West Bromwich Town Hall, Lodge Road, West Bromwich, B70 8DY. Cheques made payable to Sandwell General UNISON Branch. Thank you.
