Celebrating a historic strike victory in Cradley Heath

Sandwell General UNISON Branch banner proudly displayed to celebrate the women chainmakers’ of Cradley Heath winning a strike in 1910 to win the first minimum wage in Britain and at the same time doubling their wages.

The legacy of the National Federation of Women Workers and the brilliant leadership of Mary Macarthur lives on to remind all workers today that there is power in a union.
