The Council has a policy of paying any redundancy pay based on your weekly earnings.
It has come to UNISON’s attention that since April, Officers have chosen not to implement this policy following the government increasing the statutory redundancy pay level. However, the Council has a policy of paying more than the statutory redundancy levels which any employer is entitled to do.
Staggeringly, officers have chosen to limit redundancy payments without either any consultation with trade unions, or seeking any formal change to the Council’s policy. The Joint Trade Unions have lodged a ‘Failure to Agree’.
If you know of any colleagues that have received redundancy pay since April, please ask them to contact their trade union to see if it is appropriate to lodge an Employment Tribunal claim for any underpayments.
