Feeling the Heat?

Here is UNISON’s guide to extreme heat Extreme heat at work | UNISON – the public service union

If you are pregnant or have a known health condition then during amber and red weather warnings ensure your employer undertakes individual risk assessments to ensure all is done to keep you safe.

Heatwaves are becoming more common but the UK still doesn’t have a maximum working temperature.

Right now, we have an opportunity to change that. The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is updating its guidance on safe working temperatures this year.

In the last few days, thousands have signed this petition asking HSE to introduce a maximum working temperature. It’s nearly at 50,000.

Wherever you live, can you call on the HSE to introduce a maximum working temperature to help keep workers safe?

Temperatures are rising and working in prolonged heat and sun can be dangerous.

The HSE says 4,500 people are diagnosed with skin cancer every year as a result of outdoor working.

So why won’t they help regulate extreme temperature?

Whether you’re driving a bus, stacking shelves, working in an office, or caring for the elderly, you deserve to be safe at work.

That includes being safe from extreme heat. And that includes weeks like this one.

Together, we can win safety at work. Sign the petition now.
